Choral Productions Tasmania Inc.

was the first choir in Choral Productions Tasmania Inc, founded in February 1997, and based in Lindisfarne on Hobart’s eastern shore.

Because of Hobart’s relatively small size, singers came from far and wide to be part of this new group. Beginning with just 27 voices, incl. just one man, the group grew to 65+ before the 10th Anniversary Concert in 2007, when quite a few ‘retired’, and the choir now has approx. 40 rehearsing each week - 32 ladies and just 8 men. New singers are always welcome.

After the first 3 years, Margot introduced the group to Eisteddfod competition, and the Lincoln Singers won many 1st Prizes in the City of Hobart and City of Clarence Eisteddfods between 2000 and 2004.

The repertoire includes music theatre, gospel, folk, ‘million sellers of the 20th century’, Oscar-winning songs from movies, some classical and of course lots of Christmas songs during November and December. The Lincoln Singers is the ‘resident’ choir for the City of Clarence Carols by Candlelight every year.

New concerts are performed twice each year - in Lindisfarne in June/July and repeated in Launceston, and a Christmas concert in November in Lindisfarne. One performance is also held as a benefit for the Forcett Community Hall, south-east of Hobart, near Sorell.

In 2001, the Lincoln Singers invited singers from other choirs to join a 120-voice performance of Handel’s Messiah in the University of Tasmania’s Stanley Burbury Theatre in Sandy Bay. Soloists were drawn from the finest young singers of the day, and the two performances were well attended and well received.

The Lincoln Singers has recorded three CDs - ‘On Higher Ground’ in 2000, ‘On With the Show’ in 2002 and ‘We Need a Little Christmas’ in 2006. Copies are still available.
