Choral Productions Tasmania Inc is fortunate to have two highly trained accompanists - David Carr with the Lincoln Singers and the Southern Voices, and Ben Young with the Men in Black.
While their primary purpose is to play piano or keyboard, both men are very skilled singers and join the choir in a cappella items - David as a bass and Ben as tenor.
During joint performance, they divide the accompanying duties or both play, one on keyboard and one on piano.
Both accompanists also shine as arrangers, and the Men in Black are delighted that Ben’s very first TTBB arrangement (‘Gethsemane’ from Jesus Christ Superstar) has been approved for publishing and performance by Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ ‘Really Useful’ music company, and the Men in Black performed it in their annual concert in Hobart’s Town Hall this year to an enthralled audience.
We are awaiting news from the same company on David’s TTBB arrangement of ‘No Matter What’ from Whistle Down the Wind. If approved, this will also be performed by the Men in Black at a later time.
At all forthcoming concerts both men will join singers from the three choirs in a cappella items, and give their rich singing voices another polish!
